T he seventh annual PanIIT Global Conference 2009 to be held in Chicago from Oct. 9-11, has bagged President Bill Clinton as its keynote speaker. Other highprofile participants include President Obama's Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra and India's Ambassador Meera Shankar
"All of them are confirmed speakers," Piyush Agrawal, spokesperson for PanIIT told Desi Talk
The theme of this year's conference is "Entrepreneurship and Innovation in a Global Economy," said an Aug. 3 press release from PanIIT, an umbrella alumni organization for all the campuses of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Clinton, founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation, is expected to speak on the second day, organizers confirmed, and his focus would be on innovative ways to address challenges and opportunities in the critical areas of education, energy and climate change, and public health, with a focus on transforming ideas into action
"The speaker profile has always been distinguished," Agrawal said. "We had Bill Gates one year, and prime minister of India on another. But it is the economic times we are in that differentiate it from other years
The Asian economies are playing a greater part and there is a greater global bent
The global economy is in worst straits in last 15 years, so the focus of this convention is more on job growth - innovation, entrepreneuship leads to job growth. And we are bringing in all the primary issues such as clean tech, health care, alternative energy etc."

Chicago was chosen for this year's conference to highlight the city and its location mid-way
Previous PanIIT conventions have been either in the east or the west, Agrawal said, "And we want to get attention to this region."

The attempt of this year's meetings is to align the goals of the William J. Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative by bringing together a community of global leaders and private citizens in identifying and implementing innovative solutions for the world's most pressing challenges
Organizers are inviting all participants regardless of their affiliation with the IITs
The event also includes a Business Plan Competition (BPC) in which entrepreneurs and innovators are encouraged to participate by registering at bpc@paniit2009.org
