Bollywood actor and comedian Johnny Lever performed in Chicago recently and sought to spread his message as a peace activist and healer through prayer. Chicago Bible Church hosted Lever on Sept. 4.
The event attracted more than a thousand guests, according to organizers. Lever spoke of his son's recovery, as well as that of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan, through prayer, and performed comedy and mimicry acts.
Lever was introduced by the Rev. Shekhar Kallianpur, and was presented a plaque by the Rev.
Samuel Vallabhdas.
Among those present were Indian Consul General Ashok Kumar Attri, Illinois gubernatorial candidate Dan Hynes and candidate for Illinois comptroller Raja Krishnamoorthy.
The audience was a mix of those who spoke Hindi, Telugu, Malayali, Gujarati and Urdu and were of different faiths, a point Attri remarked upon as he praised the Bible society for its activities and paid tribute to Lever.
Krishnamoorthy spoke of his race for Illinois comptroller and stressed the need for transparency in government dealings.
Hynes also pitched for a clean administration and called for an end to favoritism in Springfield, the capitol of Illinois.
The event began with a twominute silence in memory of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who was killed in a helicopter crash earlier this month.
A prayer invocation and a dance performance by Darshana Cowper followed.
