Group Hosts Annual Fundraiser, Awards Ceremony

The India Association of Long Island hosted its 31st annual fundraising dinner and awards ceremony at the Claremont Hotel in Roslyn, N.Y., on Aug. 28.

John Kaiman, supervisor of the Town of North Hempstead, was the chief guest. About 250 guests attended the event, a press release said.

Dr. Vijay Arya, president of Arya Samaj of Long Island; Ravi Bhooplapur, president of the Xavier University School of Medicine in Aruba; Vikas Dhall, president of Zcom, a wireless networking company; Dr. Prem C. Goel, a cardiologist; Harshad Patel, president and CEO of East End Management; and Harry Singh, president and CEO of Bolla Oil Corp., were presented awards for their achievements, the release said.

The event began with nine color guards carrying the flags of the United States and India to the podium. The flags were installed and those attending sang the national anthems of the two nations.

All the honorees were introduced to the audience and a video was played showcasing their achievements.

Kaiman highlighted the importance of cultural diversity and thanked the audience and honorees for bringing their talents and zeal to this country, the release said.

Guests were treated to a Bhangra performance and enjoyed food catered by Bukhara Grill. The evening ended with dancing to a D.J.’s music.

Organizers did not disclose the amount raised at the event.
