Sixty-nine students of South Asian origin are among the 300 semifinalists in the 2013 Intel Science Talent Search. The finalists are to be announced on Jan. 23.  The highest number, 22, of South Asians are from New York state California comes in next with 13 while Massachusetts has five. There is only one South Asian student from New Jersey.
Professor Ramesh Sitaraman has developed a scientific method to study viewer reaction to online videos. The computer science professor at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass., shows in a study that most online video viewers are impatient and will abandon viewing a video stream if it is not instantly available or smooth.
A 20-year-old student from Wheaton, Ill., netted $69,002 over five days during his appearance on “Jeopardy!” Ashok Poozhikunnel, who first appeared on the show Jan. 3, was ousted Jan. 9 by Kristin Morgan of Huntsville, Ala. According to his Facebook page, Poozhikunnel attends the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and works as an underwriting benefits consultant at Gallagher Benefit Services in Itasca, Ill.

He was to return again Jan. 8. Southern California school district's move to introduce a yoga regimen has angered parents who believe that it amounts to introducing religion in classrooms. A comprehensive yoga program for students was first introduced at the Paul Ecke Central Elementary School in Encinitas, an affluent suburb north of San Diego.
