That man from Chidambaram
While India is going wild about Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, 57, Ramakrishnan, 57, the Cambridge scientist who is one of three to win the coveted Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the scientists himself seems less than enthralled.
The Indian Prime Minister, the President, cabinet ministers and Ramakrishnan's old classmates and former institutions where he studied or worked, are all sharing in the pride of his award.
Not so Ramakrishnan, who in interviews, including the one he gave to this reporter, played down his role in the research and credited his co-winners with having a larger role in the findings.
