Bollywood's Lever brings comedy act to Chicago
The event attracted more than a thousand guests, according to organizers. Lever spoke of his son's recovery, as well as that of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan, through prayer, and performed comedy and mimicry acts.
Lever was introduced by the Rev. Shekhar Kallianpur, and was presented a plaque by the Rev.Samuel Vallabhdas.

The run of her life
Now the Republican South Carolina state legislator is aspiring to become the "head honcho," managing the accounts of the whole state. She declared her run for governor in mid-May this year.
The only woman in the fray, Rep. Nikki Randhawa Haley, 37, will be in a crowded field of at least five Republicans, who were up for their first debate Sept. 22 at the historic Newberry Opera House in Columbia, S.C.

Freida Pinto, Winslet make People's best-dressed list
Although the list, released on Sept. 16, does not have numerical ranking, Winslet, 33, who won an Oscar in February for playing a dour Nazi in "The Reader," was deemed to be the best-dressed woman on the red carpet on 2009 "with her unique brand of sexy sophistication, modern Hollywood glamour and those enviable curves."
People named Reese Witherspoon as having the "best short dresses," "High School Musical" actress Vanessa Hudgens as best hippie chic, and Freida Pinto, the Indian star of Oscar-winning movie "Slumdog Millionaire," for having the best use of colour.

Disabled badminton player receives highest Indian sports honor
Disabled by polio in infancy, she has won 11 gold, three silver and two bronze medals since 2002. An exponent of the right-hand smash, Parmar won the badminton championship held at Kualalumpur at the first Asiad Paralympics in 2004.
In the second Asiad Paralympics held in Bengaluru in 2008, she won two gold medals and a silver; she defeated the Malaysian contestant in the singles and also won a gold in the doubles in tournament.

Skeptics among us
While many interviewees were pro-reform and happy with their current health plans, many revealed that they were without health insurance. Yet another group revealed doubts about the place of the U.S. amongst the world's most developed countries and others expressed hesitation over the financing and administration of the public option.
"Obama isn't tackling the problem," said Sriram Sundarraj, 22, a financial analyst from New York, N.Y. "He's doing it because it was a campaign promise."

Indian film festival in Atlanta
The festival, held on weekends for 11 weeks, will run through Oct. 31. Organized by the Indo-American Film Society and High Museum of Art, with support from the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), the festival started Aug. 21.
The festival is divided into two parts. Part I is titled "Treasures from India's National Film Development Corporation" and is scheduled to be held at the High Museum of Art through Sept.13.

Student from Hyderabad is killed in car crash in Ohio
He died on the spot when he swerved to avoid hitting a tree while trying not to hit a cat running across the highway, according to the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), which is helping the family with the arrangements for the funeral.
Varun, a friend of Naresh's who was in the front passenger seat, escaped with minor injuries.

Asides of a tragedy
Some ministers have openly demanded that the young lawmaker be made the next chief minister. A group of federal lawmakers also held a meeting here and decided to take up their demand before Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
"When Indira Gandhi expired Rajiv Gandhi was made the prime minister. Why not Jagan be made chief minister now?" says a cell phone text message being circulated by the younger Reddy's followers.

Death of a populist
Reddy's body was brought to the state capital by an Air Force helicopter and taken in a funeral procession first to Gandhi Bhavan, the state headquarters of the Congress Party in Nampally, and then to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, where members of the public gathered to pay their respects.
Known as the "people's leader," Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy, called YSR by supporters, was the architect of his party's comeback in Andhra Pradesh, winning the elections in 2004.
