Telangana state proposal hits businesses

A unit of global drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline temporarily halted operations in Andhra Pradesh on Dec. 11 as the fallout from a government plan to carve up the southern state mounted.

Fresh protests and the mass resignation of state MLAs may still force the government to backtrack, fearing not only a political backlash, but also economic repercussions.

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, a unit of the global drugmaker, said on Dec. 11 it was temporarily closing its factory in the state due to the political protests.

The wreckage of the aircraft and the bodies were recovered Sept. 3. "The aircraft is broken up into several parts and is charred, the bodies are also charred," Home Minister P.Chidambaram, who headed the search operation, said in New Delhi.

Reddy's body was brought to the state capital by an Air Force helicopter and taken in a funeral procession first to Gandhi Bhavan, the state headquarters of the Congress Party in Nampally, and then to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, where members of the public gathered to pay their respects.

Known as the "people's leader," Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy, called YSR by supporters, was the architect of his party's comeback in Andhra Pradesh, winning the elections in 2004.

Nadal's foundation to launch tennis school in India

Spanish world number one Rafal Nadal will set up a tennis school n India through his foundation, local media reported on June 4.

The Nadal Tennis School (NTS) will take shape in September and be functional by June next year in Andhra Pradesh, The Hindu newspaper reported.

The paper said NTS is a joint venture between the Rafael Nadal Foundation and Fundacion Vincente Ferrer, the Spanish arm of India based non-governmental organization Rural Development Trust (RDT).

"There have been 135 registrations so far for admission to the academy, which will be restricted to children above eight years," RDT's associate programmed director Moncho Ferrer told the paper.
