It could have been a scene from a Bollywood film: Rampaging rioters wreaking havoc across the city, police forces patrolling the streets and fear and uncertainty taking root. Unfortunately, it was a sad reality in Mumbai, India's financial capital and home of the country's beloved film industry.

Activists of the right-wing Shiv Sena party, that claims to represent the "Marathi manoos," or ordinary Maharashtrians, went on a rampage to prevent the screening of "My Name Is Khan," a film starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The actor earned the Sainiks' ire because of comments over the selection of Pakistani cricketers for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

My Name is Khan' a love story, not about terrorism, Shah Rukh says

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan says his upcoming film `My Name is Khan', which pairs him with co actor Kajol after an on-screen hiatus of eight years, does not have terrorism as its main theme and is mostly a love story.

"This film is first and foremost a love story. In fact this is one of the nicest love stories I have ever participated in ­ and I have participated in some of the best love stories that have been made here," Khan told reporters on Wednesday night after the first look of the film was released.

Directed by Karan Johar, `My Name is Khan' tells the story of an autistic man Rizwan Khan (played by Shah Rukh Khan), who is caught in the aftermath of the September 11 militant attacks in the United States

Fox Star Studios to distribute ‘My Name is Khan'

Fox Star Studios said recently it had signed a deal to finance and distribute "My Name is Khan", a Bollywood film starring Shah Rukh Khan.The film, about an Indian Muslim in San Francisco embarking on a journey across the U.S., is due for release early next year.

Fox Star Studios, a joint ven-ture between Twentieth Century Fox and Star India, will distribute "My Name is Khan" in India while Fox will release the film elsewhere.

"This deal is part of our commitment to do good business in India and align with the best names in the industry," Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios, said at a news conference.
