MUMBAI (Reuters) A former Miss India and television anchor committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her home in Mumbai, police said on July 30. Police said they were investigating why Nafisa Joseph, 25, a familiar face on Indian television, killed herself on July 29.

“Our preliminary investigations show that she committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her apartment,” A.R. Bodhare, a police officer, told Reuters. Joseph’s mother told television reporters the model ended her life after her wedding planned for next month was called off.
